✨ What’s New in FunOS 24.04.3?

  • 🔧 Updated Package Base
Includes all updates from Ubuntu Noble as of August 11, 2025 — with the latest bug fixes, security patches, and software enhancements.
  • 🧠 Linux Kernel 6.14
Now powered by the HWE kernel backported from Ubuntu 25.04 for better hardware support.
  • 🌐 Firefox ESR 128.13.0
The latest Extended Support Release (ESR) version of Firefox for improved security and stability.
  • 🖼️ 15 Stunning New Wallpapers
Beautiful new backgrounds sourced from Adobe Stock, preinstalled in /opt/artwork/wallpaper.
  • 🎨 10 New JWM Themes
Fresh look-and-feel options for your desktop. Easily switch themes via the menu.

🛠️ Important Installation Note

When using the “Try FunOS” (Live Session) and launching the Ubiquity installer, you might notice that the mouse cursor doesn’t change during installation.
This is a known cosmetic issue caused by how Ubiquity interacts with lightweight window managers like JWM.

Recommended:
For the smoothest experience, select “Install FunOS” directly from the boot menu instead of launching the installer from the desktop.

Love how quick this FunOS performs, especially on start up without the processes related to SNAPD. I suppose everyone would like to see some unique add ons to the system ….and eventually its back to a bigger distro! lol. However; for my two cents I would like to see a way to change the clock to 12 hour AM/PM. I tried terminal inputs but no luck. Also a bit of a gui for updates would be nice!
I installed 2 different PPAs ,Strawberry Player, Ubuntu extras and it crashed and lost grub. It may have been a failing hard drive though!!. Great work; my old legacy PC thanks-you.

      Hi Kelmyster,
thank you very much for the kind words and for sharing your experience with FunOS 🙏
I’m glad to hear it runs well on your legacy PC.

Regarding the 12-hour AM/PM clock, this can be changed directly from the JWM tray configuration. Please try the following steps:

      1. Open Terminal
      2. Backup the JWM tray configuration file:

      cp ~/.config/jwm/tray ~/.config/jwm/tray.bak

      3. Edit the tray configuration:

      mousepad ~/.config/jwm/tray

      Change this line:

      <Clock format="%H:%M">showdesktop</Clock>

      to:

      <Clock format="%I:%M %p">showdesktop</Clock>

Save the file and close Mousepad.
      4. Restart JWM:

      jwm -restart

After that, the clock will display time in 12-hour format with AM/PM.

About GUI updates: that’s a good suggestion 👍
FunOS intentionally keeps things minimal, but I agree a simple update GUI would be helpful, especially for new users. I’ll definitely consider this for future releases.

As for the system crash after installing PPAs, it could indeed be related to the hard drive, but mixing PPAs on a lightweight system can sometimes cause instability as well. Thanks for mentioning it — feedback like this is very valuable.

Thanks again for testing FunOS and for your support.
