The FunOS team is pleased to announce the release of FunOS 24.04.4 LTS (Build 20260606). This update delivers an updated package base, a newer Linux kernel, Firefox ESR updates, new wallpapers, and important installer reliability improvements.

What’s New in FunOS 24.04.4 LTS

1. Updated Package Base

FunOS 24.04.4 includes the latest package updates available from the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS repositories at the time of release, providing improved stability, security, and hardware support.

2. Linux Kernel 6.17.0-35

The system now ships with Linux Kernel 6.17.0-35, bringing improved hardware compatibility, performance enhancements, and updated driver support.

3. Firefox ESR 140.11.0esr

Firefox has been updated to Firefox ESR 140.11.0esr, providing the latest security fixes and stability improvements from the Extended Support Release channel.

4. New Wallpapers

This release introduces a collection of new wallpapers to refresh the desktop experience while maintaining the clean and minimal appearance of FunOS.

5. Encryption Boot Error Resolved

A critical issue affecting encrypted installations has been fixed.

Previously, selecting “Encrypt system” (LUKS) during installation could result in an unbootable system. The initramfs generation process has been corrected and now includes full LUKS and LVM support on the target installation, ensuring encrypted systems boot correctly after installation.

6. Improved Installer Robustness

Additional storage and volume management utilities have been included in the live system to improve installer reliability.

These additions allow the Calamares installer to more effectively detect, probe, clean, and format a wide range of filesystems, partition layouts, and encryption configurations.

FunOS 24.04.4 is based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and follows its long-term support schedule.

Notes for Existing Users

Users who have already installed FunOS 24.04.4 using either the Ubiquity or Calamares installer do not need to reinstall their systems.

To receive the new wallpapers included in this release, update your system and run the FunOS update script.

1. Update Installed Packages

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade

2. Download the Update Script

wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/funos-linux/funos-updates/main/ubuntu/24.04/funos-update

3. Install the Script

sudo install -m 755 funos-update /usr/bin/funos-update

Note: If you have previously installed the funos-update script, you can skip this step.

4. Run the Update Script

sudo funos-update

5. Clean Up and Reboot

sudo rm -f funos-update
sudo apt autoremove
sudo reboot now
